Increasing battery lifetime has broad benefits to various energy storage applications. Most significantly, this reduces life cycle financial and environmental cost. StorageX adresses this challenge by:

  • Performing fundamental studies to understand majority and minority degradation mechanisms
  • Developing active and inactive battery materials with exceptional chemical and cycle stability
  • Using data-driven and machine learning approaches to predict lifetime without performing years-long tests
  • Developing improved battery management systems (e.g. sensors for active feedback, charging protocols) to minimize damage during operation
  • Developing life cycle valuation models to determine the marginal dollar value of lifetime extension and the technoeconomic cost-lifetime targets for various energy storage applications
